Bunny Rabbit
A Chinese porcelain rabbit. Formed as a lidded box, decorated in iron red with scrolling floral decoration. The rabbit nearly splits into two halves revealing a hidden compartment inside. This traditionally would have been made to store small personal items but is now the ultimate curiosity cabinet piece.
The underside carries a red seal mark in the style of a Qianlong reign mark. This is a traditional reference often used as a nod to the Imperial kilns. The decoration and crackled glaze suggest that our rabbit dates to the early part of the 20th Century.
Not only are bunnies super cute but in Chinese symbolism they are associated with longevity and the Chinese zodiac, so animal forms like this guy would have been chosen deliberately, not randomly.
Hobo loves because: barmy in the best possible way. It's that unexplainable but essential piece that you just have to have.
Height: 12cm
Width: 30cm
Depth: 15cm
