In this inviting farmhouse kitchen, we created a practical yet stylish scheme for the built-in seating area – a busy family space that needed to look good and work hard. We chose a beautiful chambray-blue fabric from Spanish brand Gaston y Daniela, which has the relaxed look of denim but is durable and stain-resistant enough for everyday life.
The soft blue tones sit perfectly against the warm terracotta walls, providing the perfect contrast while allowing the garden views and window light to take centre stage. A simple, timeless update that proves practical design can still feel effortlessly elegant.
This charming hallway is part of a much-loved project here in Petworth town, belonging to a long-standing Vagabond client with a real passion for period oak furniture. The space had felt rather plain and in need of a lift, so I introduced Pierre Frey’s “Au Bord du Lac” wallpaper – a design inspired by 17th-century tapestries, reimagined in a soft, fresh palette that instantly lightened the room.
The backdrop adds texture and atmosphere while allowing the client’s beautifully carved oak pieces to shine. We styled it with a few accessories from our Petworth showroom – a simple arrangement of flowers alongside a marble bust, and a hand-painted bowl from the client’s own collection to complete the scene.
A Petworth town cottage, but never far from the Sussex countryside.
One of our favourite snug schemes to date where old and new ideas meet. Forming part of a 16th century farmhouse, this room celebrates the power of contrastt. . Classical and contemporary elements combine to create a space that feels bold yet tranquil. The result: an eclectic retreat wrapped in House of Hackney 'Artemis' wallpaper.
